September 5th is more than just another day on the calendar—it’s the United Nations' National Day of Charity. It’s a time to reflect on how we can lift each other up and create meaningful change. At Sherpa, we believe in making a positive impact, not just for our clients and team but for the wider community. Our exciting partnership with Sue Ryder is the heart of our charity efforts this year, and we’re stepping up (literally!) to support their life-changing work.
The National Day of Charity was established by the United Nations to commemorate the anniversary of the passing of Mother Teresa, who dedicated her life to helping the poorest and most vulnerable people. It serves as a global reminder of the importance of charitable actions and how they can bring hope and healing to those who need it most. This day is also an opportunity for individuals, organizations, and businesses to reflect on their role in creating a kinder, more compassionate world.
For businesses like Sherpa, it’s not just about donating; it’s about getting involved in initiatives that create long-term, sustainable impact. The National Day of Charity encourages companies to embrace their role as changemakers, using their resources and people to amplify the work of charities like Sue Ryder. Learn more about the day and its significance here.
Sue Ryder provides invaluable support to people facing some of life’s toughest challenges, from terminal illness to complex neurological conditions, to the grief of losing a loved one. With a network of hospices, neurological care centers, and bereavement support services, Sue Ryder is dedicated to ensuring that no one has to face these moments alone. Their holistic approach to care focuses not just on medical needs, but also on emotional and psychological support for patients and their families.
Sue Ryder’s work extends beyond care in the moment—they also help families and individuals find peace and dignity through personalized care plans, support groups, and bereavement services. By partnering with local communities and dedicated volunteers, Sue Ryder ensures that the impact of their care reaches as many people as possible. You can read more about their mission here.
Our partnership with Sue Ryder is one we’re incredibly proud of, and we’re taking a hands-on approach to supporting their mission. Whether we’re walking under the stars for the Starlight Hike on October 12th or braving the cold waters in Sue Ryder’s Big Dip on December 1st, our team is committed to making a difference.
One of our most exciting ongoing initiatives is our Summer Step Challenge. Over a three-month period, we’ve set our sights on reaching 4,000,000 steps—and we’re nearly there with 3.6 million steps already completed! It’s been an incredible way for our team to bond, get some fresh air, and contribute to Sue Ryder’s cause all at the same time.
In addition to our active fundraising efforts, we’re also getting our hands dirty with a Garden Volunteer Day at our local Sue Ryder Hospice. Our team will spend the day helping to maintain the hospice gardens—pruning, weeding, and ensuring the grounds remain a peaceful and welcoming space for patients, their families, and visitors. It’s just one way we’re showing our commitment to supporting Sue Ryder’s holistic approach to care.
And let’s not forget our Bake Sale—because let’s be real, one of Sherpa’s core passions (aside from marketing) is baked goods. Not only do we get to indulge in some tasty treats, but we also raise funds for Sue Ryder’s incredible work. Win-win!
At Sherpa, we believe that giving back is not just something we do, but part of who we are. Partnering with Sue Ryder has allowed us to channel our drive to make a difference into tangible actions that benefit real people. It’s more than fulfilling our social responsibility; it’s about recognizing that, in business and in life, people are what truly matter.
Through our charity initiatives, we’ve come together as a team, finding new ways to connect, grow, and make a positive impact. Whether it’s walking millions of steps, volunteering in hospice gardens, or baking cakes, we’re proud to be contributing to a cause that aligns with our passion for helping others.
So, are you inspired yet? We hope so! The great thing about charity is that there’s always a way to make a difference—whether it’s volunteering your time, making a donation, or even just spreading the word. Together, we can all help support incredible organizations like Sue Ryder.
If you’d like to support our fundraising efforts directly, we invite you to visit our JustGiving page here and help us reach our goals. Every contribution makes a difference, and together, we can provide vital support to Sue Ryder and the people who rely on their care. Let’s keep the spirit of charity alive, today and every day!
